National Pet Fire Safety Day: 3 Ways to Keep Your Pup Safe!

July 15th is National Pet Fire Safety Day. We usually prepare for fire emergencies with our families but we might forget that fire can be dangerous for our canine kiddos as well. Keeping your home and your pups safe is important every day of the year so here are 3 tips for preventing a blazing disaster in your home:

1. Keep away from open flames!
This one seems obvious but sometimes it really isn’t. Open flames can include candles, stoves, and fireplaces. Never leave pets unattended around even the smallest of flames. Candles can be particularly dangerous because we forget about them so easily. They seem so small and harmless but one bump of the tail and the curtains are on fire, sending the whole house up in flames with your poor furbaby inside. Don’t make this simple mistake and keep dogs and other pets away from open flames at all times and be sure to put out any candles or other fires before leaving them at home.

2. Keep pets near entrances.
When leaving pets at home, be sure to keep them in a safe place near a door or window. Anywhere that would be easily accessible to firefighters is preferred. If an electrical problem occurs or some dryer lent catches on fire while you’re away, your furry friend will be rescued much faster if they’re near an entrance.

3. Put a sticker on the window.
A sticker indicating how many pets are inside will alert firefighters and save them time while rescuing your dogs and other pets. Firefighters are familiar with these stickers so be sure to place on of these decals on your windows.
